Why We're Shopping for Fishing Vests

With our trip to Indonesia just weeks away, why are we shopping for fishing vests? As the team prepares to work and worship in this predominantly Muslim restricted nation, the challenges may surprise you.

The first came when we discovered that all supplies for the multi-week trip in a carry on bag that can only weigh 17 pounds. While to many of us this sounds like an ice breaker question (“what would you take if you could only take 17 pounds on an international trip for multiple weeks?”), this is the reality facing the team.

To complicate the already hilariously cramped packing situation, the local missionaries on the ground had a few requests for items they missed from back home. Just imagine. You’re a long term missionary serving in the far reaches of the world for multiple years. What things would you miss the most? What few items would you request a team bring? For these missionaries, given the time of year (late November) Stovetop stuffing, spices, and electrolytes were the request. Compared to what they are doing for the Kingdom, it’s a small request to fill...but the 17 pound limit and carry on-sized bag…

Which brings us back to fishing vests. How much of our luggage can we wear? We’re about to find out! Follow this and other adventures as we venture into yet another restricted area of the world. We are getting closer to funding our Indonesia trip, but we still need your help! Make a donation of any amount on our website (www.gomandate.org) or by mailing a check to
